The general fertility rate in the United States continued to decline last year, according to a new report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics.

"The 2018 general fertility rate fell to another all-time low for the United States," the researchers wrote in the report, published Wednesday.

The report found that the general fertility rate dropped 2% between 2017 and 2018 among girls and women age 15 to 44 nationwide.

US fertility rate is below level needed to replace population, study says

In 2017, the total fertility rate for the United States continued to dip below what's needed for the population to replace itself, according to a separate report published by the National Center for Health Statistics in January.

America's fertility rate and the number of births nationwide have been on the decline in recent years. A report of provisional birth data published by the National Center for Health Statistics in May showed the number of births last year dropping to its lowest level in about three decades.

Now the center's latest report presents selected highlights from that 2018 birth data.
For the report, researchers examined birth certificate data from the National Vital Statistics System's Natality Data File, taking a close look at births among white, black and Hispanic women in 2018.

America just had its lowest number of births in 32 years, report finds

When examined by race, the data showed that fertility rates declined 2% for white and black women, and 3% for Hispanic women, between 2017 and 2018.

The data also showed that the teen birth rate, for ages 15 to 19, fell 7% from 2017 to 2018. When examined by race, the data showed that teen births declined by 4% for black teenagers, and 8% for white and Hispanic teens.

Also among all births, the percentage delivered at less than full term, or 39 weeks, increased -- with preterm births climbing from 9.93% of births in 2017 to 10.02% in 2018, and early-term births rising from 26% in 2017 to 26.53% in 2018.

The percentages of births delivered at full-, late- and post-term declined, according to the data. Full-term births were down from 57.49% of births in 2017 to 57.24% in 2018, the data showed, and post-term births declined from 6.58% to 6.2%.

Overall, a rise in preterm births might be linked with a rise in births among women in their late 30s and 40s, since a later maternal age is a risk factor, Dr. Rahul Gupta, chief medical and health officer for March of Dimes, a nonprofit focused on the health of mothers and babies, said in May. He was not involved in the new report.

"The continuing shift toward increased maternal age at first birth is something that does increase the risk. However, it does not fully explain the increase in the preterm birth rate. So that's one of the challenges here, I think, for the nation," he said. "There is a lot more work that needs to be done as the preterm birth rate continues to rise."

WASHINGTON (AP) Reversing decades of US policy, the Trump administration said Monday it will end all asylum protections for most migrants who arrive at the US-Mexico border the president's most forceful attempt yet to block asylum claims and slash the number of people seeking refuge in America.

The new rule, expected to go into effect Tuesday, would cover countless would-be refugees, many of them fleeing violence and poverty in Central America. It is certain to face legal challenges.

According to the plan published in the Federal Register, migrants who pass through another country in this case, Mexico on their way to the US will be ineligible for asylum. The rule also applies to children who have crossed the border alone.

The vast majority of people affected by the rule are from Central America. But sometimes migrants from Africa, Cuba or Haiti and other countries try to come through the US-Mexico border, as well.

The shows actors take home as much as $350,000 per episode (thats for Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven). There are eight episodes in the season, so that works out to $2.8 million for the season just for this one show, and Brown will presumably have the time and opportunity to appear in other TV and movie projects.

The average annual salary in America is $47,060. Brown earns $31,818 for one eight-hour day. A worker paid at that rate would have to labor for 1,383 hours almost 173 work days to make that much.

She is by far the highest paid young member of the cast, with a salary that matches that of grownups Winona Ryder and David Harbour. Her teenage peers make a mere $150,000 to $250,000 per episode. Dont feel so bad, though. Thats only 50 to 80 cents per second. That is almost enough to make the child actors some of the richest people in their home states this is how much you need to make to be in the 1% in your state.

(CNN) India is the most dangerous country in the world to be a woman because of the high risk of sexual violence and slave labor, a new survey of experts shows.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation released its results Tuesday of a survey of 550 experts on women's issues, finding India to be the most dangerous nation for sexual violence against women, as well as human trafficking for domestic work, forced labor, forced marriage and sexual slavery, among other reasons.

It was also the most dangerous country in the world for cultural traditions that impact women, the survey found, citing acid attacks, female genital mutilation, child marriage and physical abuse. India was the fourth most dangerous country for women in the same survey seven years ago.

That announcement of the trademark caused an uproar (kimono being a traditional Japanese garment) and invited pushback from Japanese officials. The mayor of Kyoto sent Ms. Kardashian West a letter to ask her to reconsider the name. Days later, she did.

On Tuesday, Hiroshige Seko, Japan's trade minister, acknowledged Ms. Kardashian Wests pledge to revisit the name. Still, he said that he planned to send someone to speak to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and that he would keep an eye on the shapewear situation.

This issue was clearly over trademarks.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused US Customs and Border Patrol agents of forcing migrant women to drink water out of toilets at a Texas border detention facility.

The New York Democrat accused CBP of "systemic cruelty w/ a dehumanizing culture that treats [detained migrants] like animals" after touring detention facilities in South Texas with fellow members of the House Hispanic Caucus on Monday.

"Now I've seen the inside of these facilities. It's not just the kids. It's everyone," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "People drinking out of toilets, officers laughing in front of members Congress. I brought it up to their superiors. They said 'officers are under stress & act out sometimes.' No accountability."

The congresswoman said that female migrants told her of horrible conditions and treatment by officers in the facility.

"After I forced myself into a cell w/ women & began speaking to them, one of them described their treatment at the hands of officers as 'psychological warfare' waking them at odd hours for no reason, calling them wh*res, etc," she wrote. "Tell me what about that is due to a 'lack of funding?'"

And during brief comments outside one facility, Ocasio-Cortez told reporters the cells women were being held in don't have running water.

"They put them in a room with no running water and these women were being told by CBP officers to drink out of the toilet," she said. "And that was them knowing a congressional visit was coming this is CBP on their best behavior."

Ocasio-Cortez is scheduled to visit another facility in Clint, Texas, which has become the subject of heavy scrutiny after lawyers reported that migrant children were being deprived of proper sanitation, including soap, and subjected to other cruel treatment.

Physician Dolly Lucio Sevier said the conditions at the Clinton detention center, which she recently visited, "could be compared to torture facilities."

"That is, extreme cold temperatures, lights on 24 hours a day, no adequate access to medical care, basic sanitation, water, or adequate food," Sevier wrote in a recent court declaration.

A federal judge in California ordered the government on Saturday to send an independent monitor to Clint to ensure conditions are improved.

Ocasio-Cortez sparked debate last month when she called the US's migrant detention facilities "concentration camps." Some took issue with Ocasio-Cortez's implicit comparison of the detention centers and World World II-era death camps.
